How to Tell an Original Perfume from a Fake
Share
Counterfeit perfumes are common, and some copies look convincing at first glance. No single check is 100% conclusive, but together these signs help you avoid most fakes.
1. Price that is too good to be true
Original designer and niche perfumes have a real cost. A price far below the usual market price for the same bottle and size is the most common warning sign.
2. Packaging and cellophane
Look at the box print quality, spelling, fonts and alignment. Cellophane on original boxes is usually tight and neatly folded. Blurry printing, spelling mistakes or loose, messy wrapping are red flags.
3. Batch code
Most original perfumes carry a batch code printed or embossed on the bottom of the box, and usually also on the bottle. The two should match. A missing batch code, or a box code that doesn't match the bottle, is a warning sign.
4. Bottle, cap and sprayer
Original bottles generally have clean glass, even engraving or printing, a well-fitted cap and a fine, even mist from the sprayer. Uneven glass, a loose cap or a sprayer that squirts instead of misting can point to a copy.
5. The scent itself
Fakes often smell close to the original in the first minutes but fade quickly or turn harsh. If you know the fragrance well, a big difference in how it develops on skin is a sign something is wrong.
6. The seller
The safest step is buying from a seller who stands behind authenticity in writing. At Egy Fragrance we source through authorized distributors, check incoming stock against manufacturer batch information, and back every order with our EGP 10,000 authenticity guarantee: if a fragrance purchased from us is proven inauthentic under our guarantee terms, you receive a full refund plus EGP 10,000.
